On October 29, 2022 - The Honghu Orthopedic Surgical Robot Experience & Exchange Meeting, with the theme of “A Noble Orthopedic Vision”, officially kicked off in Shantou. Dozens of orthopedic specialists from local tertiary hospitals were invited to attend the two-day event to share the product training and test drive experience of the Honghu Orthopedic Surgical Robot, and to immerse themselves in the technological charm of the Chinese-developed artificial intelligence medical device.

During the symposium, orthopedic experts and clinical training engineers of Honghu discussed the cutting-edge research results of orthopedic robotics. The in-depth exchange of views on the front-line clinical practice and the robotic research process inspired every participant greatly. The Honghu Orthopedic Surgical Robot was acclaimed and applauded by all the experts present for its superb capability to assist operators in an efficient, stable, and precise manner.

The Honghu Orthopedic Surgical Robot Experience sharing symposium in Shantou aims to enable the cutting-edge domestic robots to reach more regions in China, accelerate the clinical application and transformation of advanced research results of intelligent medical devices, improve the orthopedic medical level in Chaoshan, and profoundly optimize surgeons’ operation experience, thereby delivering more benefits to local orthopedic patients by performing surgeries efficiently, safely, and scientifically!

On the morning of October 29, the Honghu Test Drive Experience & Exchange Meeting was officially opened. The experts systematically learned about the configuration, functions of each part, advantages and clinical operation skills of Honghu, performed simulated operation on the prosthetic bones, shared clinical cases, and discussed the key surgical points based on different conditions of patients’ bones. The whole process was meticulous and rich in cases.

During the test drive, the invited experts got an overview of the Honghu, learned about its basic operation skills, and experienced all the surgical procedures, including preoperative planning, robot registration, bone registration, and osteotomy. After getting familiar with the operation of the Navigation Trolley and the Surgical Trolley in turn, the experts were deeply impressed by Honghu’s efficient and intelligent preoperative planning ability, friendly human-robotic collaboration, and safe, flexible self-developed robotic arms. They clearly affirmed the obvious advantages of Honghu Orthopedic Surgical Robot over traditional surgery in terms of technological innovation: not only does it reduce the learning curve of the operator and improve surgical efficiency, it also greatly improves the post-operative experience of the patient through efficient and precise collaboration, reducing complications and achieving rapid recovery.

Honghu entered Chaoshan, bringing advanced surgical robot technology to the region, further promoting the development of medical-industrial innovation and clinical transformation of cutting-edge medical devices, and adding to the overall picture of the Honghu nationwide tour.

At the beginning of this year, Honghu embarked on a tour to Yunnan, serving 14 hospitals in nine prefecture-level cities by starting from Dali, passing through Chuxiong and Kunming, and going all the way to Zhaotong and Diqing in the north, Pu’er and Honghe in the south, Qujing in the east, as well as Nujiang in the west. The Honghu team trained nearly 30 local surgeons by helping them master the operation of the Honghu to assist surgeries, completing knee replacement surgeries with the help of the Honghu Orthopedic Surgical Robot for 50 patients in the region, thereby truly removing people’s sufferings and rendering the most tangible assistance to senior citizens who are tormented by aching knees all the year round, so that they are able to walk in a way that most people do.

As the first and only Chinese surgical robot that has been certified by the National Medical Products Administration of the People’s Republic of China (NMPA) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Honghu Orthopedic Surgical Robot is gradually breaking the monopoly of imported products on the Chinese-developed orthopedic joint robot market and facilitating the development of China’s intelligent orthopedic surgical robots. It strives to provide personalized, precise, and minimally invasive treatment options, so that more patients in more primary-level hospitals can have access to frontier science and technology.

The revolutionary of the Honghu Orthopedic Surgical Robot is not only manifested in its superb performance in customized surgeries, precise osteotomy by robotic arms, and reduction of complications, but also in the integration of its trailblazing 5G remote technology with robotic surgeries. In September 2021, the Honghu Orthopedic Surgical Robot was interconnected via the 5G remote technology in Shanghai, Kunming, and Huizhou, and assisted Prof. Haobo Zhong’s team at the Huizhou First Hospital to complete China’s first total knee joint replacement surgery based on the 5G remote technology. This pioneering move means that the robotic orthopedic surgery has broken the barrier of geographic distance and shared medical resources across space in every sense of the word, thus empowering high-quality medical resources to reach more areas for the benefit of more patients.

Mr. Yu Liu, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of MicroPort® MedBot®, said that the successful launch of the Honghu Orthopedic Surgical Robot in Shantou of Chaoshan demonstrated the belief and vision of Honghu to travel the length and breadth of the country to bring the state-of-the-art innovations of medical devices to hospitals nationwide. By assisting surgeons with the Honghu Orthopedic Surgical Robot, we endeavor to make precise orthopedic robotic surgeries more standardized for others to follow, thus removing surgeons’ clinical barriers and improving patients’ surgical reaction and experience. We look forward to the early entry of Honghu into local hospitals to step up the orthopedic treatment and surgeries in Chaoshan, so as to fulfill the company’s founding aspiration to “Make Surgery Easier, Safer and Less Invasive”.
