Chengdu, China - On October 15, 2022, the 2022 Annual Academic Conference of the Western Clinical Medical Education Alliance, co-sponsored by the Western Clinical Medical Education Alliance, the West China Hospital of Sichuan University, and the Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association, was grandly held in Chengdu. More than 100 famous experts and scholars from all over the world gathered to witness the event, interacting and communicating with each other both online and offline. The conference was also attended by Shanghai MicroPort MedBot (Group) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “MicroPort® MedBot®”). As a leading medical robotics company in China, it showcased the practical achievements and latest progress of MicroPort® robotics in medical technology innovation and clinical research to the participating experts.
It is known that the Western Clinical Medical Education Alliance was established on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the founding of the West China Hospital of Sichuan University, led by the Hospital and jointly initiated by 27 affiliated hospitals and clinical medical schools of prestigious universities in 12 provinces (districts and cities) in the west, aiming to build a regional platform for clinical teaching and academic exchange, promote and guide the affiliated hospitals and clinical colleges of universities to update the concept of clinical medical education, build and share high-quality teaching resources, consolidate the major front for cultivating personnel of the affiliated hospitals of universities, accelerate the construction of the quality assurance system of the exemplary clinical teaching & training, and strive to build a high-level clinical faculty.
The opening ceremony of the conference was presided over by Professor Kunjie Wang, Vice President of the West China Hospital ,Sichuan University. He talked about the alliance’s objectives in accelerating the innovative development of medical education, improving the quality of medical personnel training, and establishing a mechanism to guarantee clinical practice, so as to ensure that high-quality personnel can safeguard people’s life and health. The alliance will build a platform for clinical teaching exchange and cooperation in the west, combine complementary advantages, and promote resource sharing, thereby boosting the high-quality and innovative development of clinical medical education in the west!
Multiple experts said that medical education is a significant cornerstone for healthcare development, since it exerts considerable influence on the vital interests of people and happy life of innumerable households. The alliance will endeavor to step up integrating the quality improvement of clinical medical education in the west, the project platform construction, educational resources sharing, and the institutional guarantee, reform and innovation, in an effort to build an excellent regional collaborative network of clinical medical education, and to cultivate clinical medical personnel that adapt to the balanced development of medical quality in the west.
In addition to the main forum, the annual meeting also has seven sub-forums on undergraduate education, postgraduate education, post-graduation education, medical simulation teaching, nursing education, innovative development of higher education of medical technology, and ideological and political education salon, inviting numerous practitioners from various related professional fields to get involved in online and offline exchanges, comprehensively manifesting the latest progress and achievements in clinical medical education and jointly witnessing the development of clinical medical education in western China, so as to further implement the national strategies of “Healthy China” initiative and “Large-Scale Development of Western China”.
During the conference, MicroPort® MedBot® brought its latest practical achievements and product advances in surgical robotics. As the first four-arm laparoscopic robot developed by a Chinese company and approved for marketing, the Toumai® Laparoscopic Surgical Robot has continuously risen to the challenge of complicated surgical procedures, and assisted clinical experts to achieve multiple “firsts” with the help of Chinese-developed surgical robots, demonstrating excellent performance in clinical projects in terms of safety, effectiveness, and stability.
Up to now, Toumai® has completed 300 robot-assisted clinical verification surgeries in 22 hospitals spanning 13 provinces across China, covering urology, general surgery, gynecology and thoracic surgery, marking the increasing maturity of Toumai® in clinical application, which can fully meet the clinical requirements of surgical robots. Toumai®, with its outstanding strength in advanced technologies and impressive surgical records continuously made, has accelerated the realization of the national strategy of “Substitution of high-end imported medical devices with domestic products”.
In addition to continuous innovation in technology and challenging complicated surgeries, MedBot® also attaches great importance to medical education and training, and has established nearly 30 clinical application and training centers throughout the country, including the Medical Robot Practical Training Base of the China Association of Medical Equipment. Through innovative robotic surgery teaching and demonstration models, such as training centers, training bases, and mobile training demonstration platforms, it has conducted a series of clinical training and technical guidance for surgical robots, helping operators and trainees at all levels of hospitals across China to systematically master critical operational points and skills of related products and building a comprehensive medical robot education and training system, so as to reach more prefecture- and county-level hospitals by training more surgeons in the country.
