Wuxi, China - On November 12, 2022, the Eastern Tour of the Primary Group of the Chinese Urology Association (CUA) & The 8th Taihu Minimally Invasive Urology Forum & The 8th Huishan Precision Medicine Forum was held in Taihu, Wuxi. The event was sponsored by the Primary Group of CUA and Wuxi Anti-Cancer Association, and co-organized by Wuxi No.2 People's Hospital. Focusing on lectures and surgical demonstrations, the event attracted experts and scholars in the field of urology across the country.
As the leader of Chinese-developed four-arm laparoscopic surgical robots, MicroPort® MedBot® demonstrated its flagship Toumai® Laparoscopic Surgical Robot in the event and received an exclusive interview by Wuxi Radio and Television Station. Its pioneering technology image attracted many guests to experience the robot and triggered discussions for the latest achievements and future trends of Chinese-developed robots.
The Master Forum session of this year's Taihu Minimally Invasive Urology Forum focused on the cutting-edge trend of minimally invasive urological surgery, and experts analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of different surgical procedures and strategies through clinical cases. It was especially stressed that the surgery is gradually moving towards the era of fine and minimally invasive robotic surgery, which surpasses the traditional open surgery and laparoscopic surgery in terms of surgical experience for both surgeons and patients.
The booth of MicroPort® Toumai® was located near the conference signature wall. Throughout the day, urologists came to experience the robot. They sat at the surgeon console to observe the image on the monitor, and tried to control the four robotic arms of the patient cart by operating the main hand and foot pedal. The robot was very precise in synchronizing the coordination of eyes and hands. The experts and scholars spoke highly of its flexibility and stability after operation, and lamented the rapid development of domestic robots, the remarkable achievements made and the cutting-age technology.
On the same day of the conference, Wuxi Radio and Television Station reported exclusively on MicroPort® Toumai® and published an article titled "Perfect suturing after cutting chicken leg-a marvelous Chinese-developed surgical robot! The article elaborated on the advantages of Toumai® four-arm robot in refined operation and the major breakthrough in 5G remote robotic surgery.
The article described the experiment of President Ninghan Feng of The Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, who operated the robot to perform experiments on cutting and suturing chicken legs, and demonstrated the basic operation of Tuomai® on site. He said that Toumai® is highly flexible and suitable for fine operation, and the operating experience is as flexible and comfortable as playing a game.
The on-site personnel of MicroPort® MedBot® was interviewed and said that this year, Toumai® successfully completed two ultra-long-distance surgeries, spanning nearly 5,000 kilometers from Kizilsu Kirghiz Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to Nanjing of Jiangsu Province, thus realizing the world’s longest distance 5G remote robotic surgery so far and demonstrating China’s breakthrough and leadership in 5G ultra-long-distance surgery, which is conducive to boosting the sinking of high-quality medical resources. We have been dedicated to promoting technological innovation, transforming it into clinical benefits and delivering them to more patients.
As the first and only Chinese-developed four-armed laparoscopic robot approved for marketing by NMPA, MicroPort® Toumai® has accomplished several first breakthroughs in complex surgical procedures in China, and has completed a total of 300 robot-assisted clinical validation surgeries in urology, general surgery, gynecology and thoracic surgery in 13 provinces and 22 hospitals across China by October this year. Toumai® is gradually growing mature in clinical application. It aims to promote the clinical transformation of robotic surgery technology through continuous medical-industrial cooperation and a professional and scientific training system for surgeons, so that the domestic robots can be accessible to more hospitals across the country, optimize the surgical experience of surgeons and patients, realizing the original intention of "Make Surgery Easier, Safer and Less Invasive".
