Yunnan Province, China - On April 31, Qujing Second People's Hospital successfully completed its first robotic cholecystectomy, which was conducted by Denghua Fang, Director of Minimally Invasive Metabolic Surgery, with the assistance of Toumai® four-arm laparoscopic surgical robot (hereinafter referred to as "Toumai® surgical robot") of Shanghai MicroPort MedBot (Group) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "MicroPort® MedBot® Group").

It is memorable that Qujing Second People's Hospital (hereinafter referred to as "Qujing Second Hospital") is the birthplace of laparoscopic surgery in China, where the first laparoscopic surgery in China was performed in 1991, and the Director Denghua Fang was the assistant of the first laparoscopic surgery in China 32 years ago. Nowadays, the breakthrough of laparoscopic robotic surgery in the hospital and the first case of Toumai® surgical robot in the whole southwest region is the succession and inheritance of the spirit of exploration and innovation of the predecessors, which also means that Qujing Second Hospital, the "groundbreaker" of mini-invasive surgery technology in China, has taken a step forward and continues to embrace new technologies after 32 years. It is an honor that the domestic Toumai® robot participated in this event and witnessed this historic moment together with Qujing Second Hospital.

In the 1980s, with the birth of endoscopic imaging system, the first laparoscopic cholecystectomy was performed in humans. On February 19, 1991, Prof. Zuwu Xun, the president of Qujing Second People's Hospital of Yunnan Province, and his team completed the first laparoscopic cholecystectomy in China. The surgery was a national sensation, and he was then respected as the originator of laparoscopic surgery in China, making the Qujing Second People's Hospital renowned as "the birthplace of mini-invasive surgery in China". The hospital has received nearly 100 experts from all over the country to visit and study, which has played a positive role in promoting the development of laparoscopic technology in China.

This gallbladder surgery was easy. After establishing a channel in the abdominal wall and introducing Toumai® robotic surgical instrument, there were almost no surgical dead corners under the robot 3D amplification surgery system. Director Denghua Fang operated the instrument at the surgeon's station to perform a series of operations such as separation, cutting, and electric coagulation, with the gallbladder successfully removed and the operation completed with almost no bleeding. This has also laid a good foundation for subsequent robotic surgeries in various departments of Qujing Second Hospital.
