Sanya, China - On April 27, Toumai® four-arm endoscopic surgical robot (Toumai® Robot) of Shanghai MicroPort MedBot® (Group) Co., Ltd. (MicroPort® MedBot®) successfully assisted Sanya Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Shanghai Children's Medical Center Affiliated to School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiaotong University ("Sanya Maternal and Child Health Hospital", fully hosted by Shanghai Children's Medical Center Affiliated to School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiaotong University) in performing the first pediatric urological robot-assisted surgery in the hospital. It is the first case of pediatric urological surgery completed by the Chinese-developed Toumai® Robot in China, marking the beginning of the application of Toumai® Robot to a wider range of patient groups, and making a breakthrough in reaching the southern region of the national clinical medical business - the southernmost province of China, to bring the benefits of precise micro-trauma surgery to more medical and patient groups in China.
The case was a robot-assisted left renal cyst decortication in a 9-year-old girl who was examined and found to have a renal cyst for 4 weeks. The surgery was performed by Jie Sun, director of Sanya Maternal and Child Health Hospital. The operation was smooth, almost with no bleeding. The success of this pediatric robot-assisted surgery has once again demonstrated the stable, reliable performance of the Toumai® Robot, expanding its clinical applications to the pediatric surgery.
Toumai® Robot has previously completed more than 770 clinical surgeries in hospitals across provinces and cities in China, covering dozens of hospitals where it has left footprints of successful routine, classic and difficult surgeries in many areas such as southwest China, southeast China, northwest China, the Greater Bay Area, Yangtze River Delta, northeast China, Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai Regions, involving a variety of specialties such as urology, gynecology, gastrointestinal surgery, hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, bringing the help of domestic high precision instruments to more medical and patient groups.
Jie Sun, director of Sanya Maternal and Child Health Hospital, said:
Operating the Chinese-developed Toumai® robot system for the first time, I felt that the system was very smooth and sensitive during the process, which enabled precise control, freeing and resection, offering a great aid to the surgeon. I sat through the entire procedure and had a better experience than the traditional way. I expect that the Toumai® Robot will continue to advance clinical surgery for the benefit of more patients in more hospitals in more regions and accelerate the replacement of high-end medical device imports by Chinese-developed ones.
Mr. Yu Liu, Executive Vice President
and Chief Commercial Officer of MicroPort® MedBot® said:
The success of the first pediatric robot-assisted surgery by Chinese-developed Toumai® Robot means that Toumai® has made a breakthrough in pediatric urology. We will continue to practice the original intention to "Make Surgery Easier, Safer and Less Invasive" with actions step by step.
