Urumqi, China - At the end of May, Toumai® four-arm endoscopic surgical robot (Toumai® Robot) of Shanghai MicroPort MedBot (Group) Co., Ltd. (MicroPort® MedBot®) assisted the People's Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (People's Hospital of Xinjiang) in completing six consecutive urology surgeries, the first "six consecutive" surgeries achieved by a home-made robot. The surgery was performed by three doctors, director Jiuzhi Li, director Zecheng Ni, and deputy director Yong Luo of the urology department.

All six surgeries were performed through a lumbar approach, where a narrow surgical space required a high operation capability for the robot in the narrow space. Toumai® Robot is equipped with rotatable wrist instruments and a high-definition 3D field of view, making it easy for the operator to grasp the operating distance and identify anatomical structures for reaching the surgical position precisely and flexibly.

The People's Hospital of Xinjiang has completed nearly 70 Chinese-developed robot-assisted surgeries with Toumai® Robot so far, ranking first in Xinjiang. After strict, sufficient technical and scientific ethical validation for its commissioning in the People's Hospital of Xinjiang, MicroPort® Toumai® Robot has gradually stepped into the stage of normalized surgery, constantly challenging the difficulty and number of surgeries and bringing advanced high-end medical technology to the inland northwest, which is helpful to narrow the differences in medical resources, medical platforms and medical technology between Xinjiang and first-tier cities while benefiting more patients in remote areas.

In addition, the continuous combination and exploration of the Chinese-developed Toumai® Robot with clinical applications will drive the level of robot-assisted surgery across Xinjiang, and also enable MicroPort® MedBot® to collect more front-line opinions and feedback for it to optimize user experience and improve the technical strength and clinical adaptability of the home-made robot.

Mr. Yu Liu, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of MicroPort® MedBot® said:

With the further development of Toumai® Robot assisted clinical surgery, we have successfully challenged more and more difficult surgeries, creating a "continuous operation" of six consecutive surgeries, and of course, we believe that they will be normal operations in the future. Our goal is to enable Toumai® to meet all clinical needs and give full play to the advantages of domestic technology, and truly create more Chinese-developed high-end devices, so as to bring benefits to patients and the public.
