Qujing, Yunnan --- The robot-assisted total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is successfully completed in the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Hospital of Huize County with Honghu Orthopedic Surgical Robot ("Honghu") independently developed by MicroPort NaviBot (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Shanghai MicroPort MedBot (Group) Co., Ltd. The three surgeries were performed by Director Chundong Zhou, Director Yinghu Zhao and their team of Orthopedics and Traumatology Department of the TCM Hospital of Huize County, and Professor Chuan Li of No. 920 Hospital. The world's largest copper coin "Jiajing Tongbao" was cast and preserved in Huize County, thus honoring the county as the "Hometown of Largest Copper Coin". Meanwhile, the TCM Hospital of Huize County is a key county receiving assistance for rural revitalization. It is listed as one of the MicroPort®MedBot® Multicenter Research Teams, where MicroPort®MedBot® has truly achieved the hope of accessing the high-quality medical resources – inclusive smart medical care -- to different levels of medical institutions and improving the medical services in remote areas, which marks that the TCM Hospital of Huize County has opened up an era of orthopedic robot-assisted procedure.

Patient 1: A 50-year-old female suffering from knee osteoarthritis for 6 years.

Patient 2: A 49-year-old female suffering from knee osteoarthritis for 5 years.

Patient 3: A 69-year-old male suffering from knee osteoarthritis and varus deformity for more than 10 years.

Before the operation, the surgical team worked out a careful surgical plan and communicated patiently with the family members of patients, and finally decided to adopt Honghu to assist in the TKA and made a personalized surgical solution by performing CT 3D segmentation and reconstruction of knee joint for patients with Honghu. Honghu Human-computer Interaction Platform guided the robotic arm registration and bone registration nimbly during the procedure, the robotic arms accurately moved to the preplanned position, assisted Director Chundong Zhou and Director Yinghu Zhao in the osteotomy of femur and tibia. Compatible with the MicroPort®Orthopedics medial-pivot knee system, the whole operation was completed smoothly and efficiently.

Postoperative measurement shows that the actual osteotomy is completely consistent with the planned value. The patient recovered fast after the operation, and the full-length radiograph of the lower limb showed that the force line had been accurately recovered, which proved the precise characteristics of Honghu.

Director Chundong Zhou of the Orthopedics and Traumatology Department said: "The robot performs the intelligent segmentation, the surgical process is very smooth, and the time for operation has been shortened. The model, and the position and angle for placement of prosthesis used are highly consistent with the pre-operative plan. As for the patients, and compared with the conventional procedure, the total knee arthroplasty (TKA) assisted with Honghu Orthopedic Surgical Robot reduces the amount of bleeding and the occurrence of complications effectively. And for postoperative rehabilitation, the time for hospitalization and postoperative rehabilitation is obviously shorter than in similar cases conducted before.”
