Recently, Shanghai MicroPort MedBot (Group) Co., Ltd. (referred to as "MicroPort® MedBot®") has achieved multiple successful bids for its Toumai® four-arm laparoscopic surgical robot (referred to as "Toumai® robot"). As of now, the Toumai® robot has won bids in over 15 hospitals across several provinces in China, ranking first in sales among Chinese-developed brand laparoscopic surgical robots. Among them, six out of the top 100 hospitals (Fudan version) in China have adopted the Toumai® robot, accounting for approximately 40% of the market share.
Since obtaining NMPA approval and officially entering the commercial market in January 2022, the Chinese-developed Toumai® robot has gained the trust of doctors and received high recognition from hospitals and the market due to its outstanding clinical value, forward-looking technological innovation capabilities, and comprehensive training services.
As the shaper and leader of the Chinese-developed laparoscopic surgical robot industry, MicroPort® MedBot® Group is showcasing China's "hardcore" strength in product development and application of cutting-edge technologies, promoting the commercial expansion of the Chinese surgical robot industry towards a new stage of scalability and globalization.
Crossing the threshold of large-scale surgeries,
Toumai® robot highlights its significant clinical value.
Currently, the Toumai® robot has assisted in over 1,500 high-difficulty human clinical surgeries across various departments, including urology, general surgery (gastrointestinal surgery, hepatobiliary pancreatic surgery, breast surgery), thoracic surgery, gynecology, and pediatrics, in more than 60 hospitals in 21 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities) nationwide.
Among the completed 1,500 surgeries, nearly 200 different procedures were involved, with over 1,100 cases classified as level 4 high-difficulty surgeries, and nearly 60 consecutive surgeries performed in a single day. Additionally, the Toumai® robot has successfully assisted in over 80 exploratory 5G remote human clinical surgeries, achieving a 100% success rate and setting more than 10 world records.
This fully demonstrates the stability, safety, and surgical performance of the Toumai® robot have reached the international top level. It can effectively assist doctors in tackling high-difficulty surgeries, providing convenient conditions for hospital teaching and scientific research while offering inclusive and reliable treatment options for patients.
Promoting collaborative innovation between medicine and engineering,
continuously addresses clinical pain points.
MicroPort® MedBot® have explored and pioneered a mature and distinctive path of combining medicine and engineering. The Toumai® robot development team works closely with doctors, promptly transforming doctors' improvement suggestions into real technological innovations and research and development optimizations. This rapid progress of the Chinese-developed Toumai® robot meets the clinical needs of Chinese doctors more effectively.
Currently, MicroPort® Robot Group has collaborated with nearly 100 experts from dozens of hospitals in clinical research, clinical trials, and cooperation, achieving a close integration of "medicine" and "engineering." Dr. He Chao, President of MicroPort® Robot Group, stated that through collaboration with doctors, they have led the breakthroughs and innovations of Toumai® technology in a clinically-oriented and innovative manner. This not only solves clinical pain points but also brings new ideas and opportunities to the development of the medical device industry.
By strengthening doctor training services, MicroPort® MedBot® is fully committed to ensuring the best customer experience.
"The optimization of services" is the guiding principle for Chinese-developed surgical robots on the path to success. MicroPort® MedBot® attach great importance to medical education and training, establishing the largest clinical service team in China and setting up over 30 Toumai® robot clinical application and training centers throughout the country. This includes four self-built training centers in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and a mobile training platform, with over 1,000 doctors trained to date.
The training centers closely cooperate with hospitals, developing a set of robot training courses and assessment standards that meet the clinical needs and surgical requirements of doctors. This has fostered more robot surgery experts in hospitals, promoting the application and popularization of robot surgical technology and providing safer and more precise surgical treatments for patients. In addition to achieving full coverage in their respective regions, the training centers also provide training services for surgical experts from countries along the "Belt and Road" initiative. In terms of spare parts center construction, in addition to the central warehouse in Shanghai, MicroPort® MedBot® has established branch warehouses in multiple provinces and cities nationwide, ensuring stable spare parts supply to hospitals and fully meeting the demands of related surgical therapy.
Mr. Yu Liu, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of MicroPort® MedBot®, stated:
With the introduction of more Toumai® robots into hospitals, they will transform into intelligent assistants for surgeons, enabling minimally invasive, precise, standardized, and intelligent clinical treatments. This will result in smaller incisions, less bleeding, higher surgical safety, and success rates, as well as accelerated postoperative recovery. The industrialization of Chinese-developed surgical robots is becoming increasingly mature, and their advantages in terms of cost-effectiveness are already evident. More and more hospitals are choosing Chinese-developed products, which helps accelerate the popularization and application of this advanced technology. This, in turn, promotes the development of minimally invasive surgical techniques and clinical standards in the field of surgery, both domestically and globally. It provides more high-quality and accessible medical robot solutions for patients and doctors worldwide, ultimately realizing the vision of " Make surgery easier, safer and less invasive. "
