The Debut of Toumai® Surgical Robots on the international stage!Making waves at the 20th European Challenges in Laparoscopy & Robotics
2024-06-12 GMT+8 PM 04:30

From June 5th to 7th, the 20th Challenges in Laparoscopy & Robotics (CILR) meeting was held in Italy, Rome. Regarded as the“Elite Club” of international minimally invasive urological surgery, CILR annually invites top international experts to present academic reports, demonstrating various challenging urological surgical procedures, and showcasing cutting-edge surgical methods and technologies.

On this globally significant stage, Professor Zhang Xuepei of The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University presented the latest advancements in domestically produced Toumai® laparoscopic Surgical Robots for 5G remote urological surgery. Meanwhile, Director Dai Haitao from the First People's Hospital of Jingzhou shared a recent successful case of "left renal cancer radical resection combined with inferior vena cava thrombectomy" using the Toumai® robot. Imbued with detailed data and indepth elaboration, their reports enabled the scientific research strength, innovation and clinical application of China-created surgical robots in the field of urology, offering impressive insights for international peer scholars.

Facing a distinguished audience of urology experts, Professor Zhang elaborated on the pioneering innovations, clinical research, and technological achievements of MicroPort® MedBot in remote surgery.

Drawing from his experience with 5G remote surgery, he emphasized how advanced technologies like “Hot-standby backup,” “Multi-Network convergence,” and “Intelligent Coding” within the Toumai® remote surgical system ensure clear visibility and precise operation, prioritizing patient safety with minimal latency and maximum reliability. He pointed out that the uneven distribution of medical resources in China could be mitigated by utilizing 5G remote surgery to perform operations across temporal and spatial barriers, reducing patients' travel time and economic costs and minimizing delays in treatment. Toumai® has spearheaded the 5G remote sharing of top medical techniques, equipment, and expertise, extending support to developing areas from more developed hospitals.

Director Dai Haitao pointed out that "Radical nephrectomy with inferior vena cava tumor thrombus extraction" is hailed as the "pearl on the crown" of urological surgery. With the precise and stable assistance of the Toumai® robot, the surgery proceeded seamlessly. The occlusion lasted 50 minutes during the seven hour procedure, with approximately 800ml of blood loss, and the patient was able to move around on the first day post-surgery.

As a leading example of domestically developed surgical robots in China, Toumai® offers a broad and precise field of vision, enabling surgeons to conduct intricate anatomical dissections in urological surgery. By enhancing the surgeon's cognitive abilities, vision, and manual dexterity, Toumai® standardizes surgical procedures, making them replicable and thus reducing surgical complexity, which in turn facilitates broader promotion.
